no matter how hard we try
we always change
into people we'd never thought we'd become back in the day
and i don't really wanna see you
cuz i know you won't be the same
but i'll never stop being jealous of those hipsters you date

A nearness to Tremendousness—
An Agony procures—
Affliction ranges Boundlessness—
Vicinity to Laws

Contentment's quiet Suburb—
Affliction cannot stay
In Acres—Its Location
Is Illocality—

Summer is opening up to be reality.
I bought books yesterday and lay in the sun thinking about lots and little.
There are three guys playing with sticks on a nearby balcony and I wish there was a zipline through the air so I could join them.

And you wait. You wait for the one thing
that will change your life,
make it more than it is-
something wonderful, exceptional,
stones awakening, depths opening to you.

In the dusky bookstalls
old books glimmer gold and brown.
You think of lands you journeyed through,
of paintings and a dress once worn
by a woman you never found again.

And suddenly you know: that was enough.
You rise and there appears before you
in all its longings and hesitations
the shape of what you lived.

-Rainer Maria Rilke

David and Patrick

Saturday, April 24, 2010

A couple days ago I was wearing a shirt with a big "P" on it. I was walking back to my building and as I was passing an old man with a cane, he stopped and pointed at my shirt and asked, "P?"
I stopped and shrugged, not knowing how to explain the shirt. He said, "It's a mystery...life is a complete mystery." I smiled and said, "Yes." He nodded and kept walking.
He is old, and I think beginning to lose his mind...I could hear it in the tone of his voice. I go in and out of thinking life is a complete mystery, but in that moment I completely trusted him. Life is a mystery? Ok, that's fine.
